I came under the care of Mr Liau as an emergency case . I had not met him prior to my admission to Addenbrooks and so had no idea of what to expect of his team or my care. Following life saving surgery I was advised of what had happened and that he had had to be imaginative in his work. Throughout my stay he visited regularly to check on my progress and he was very supportive and encouraging. He achieved a very positive outcome and I am making a good recovery. His team and nursing staff were very caring and attentive and helped me come to terms with the situation and see me through it. After discharge he kept in touch with follow up appointments and call. He also explained fully what he haddone and gave reasons why. I am having on going check ups and feel totally confident with my on going care. Mr Liau will not accept praise easily. He is a lifesaver and should accept it. Him and his team are exceptional and definitely needed.

I met Mr Liau when it was clear I needed surgery for a secondary tumour in my liver. From the first consultation, it was clear that he was attentive and cared. He explained everything clearly and gave me the time to ask all of my questions, sometimes twice. Even more, after the consultation he returned shortly after having immediately gone away to check, unprompted, something that I was concerned about. I came away from that first meeting feeling supported and safe in his care, and this was only reinforced as things moved forward. His team were equally attentive and supportive on the day of the surgery and during my time in hospital. I received visits from his team everyday, and what impressed me most was that he personally came to visit me almost everyday. His presence and demeanour brought positivity to my time in hospital, and he was always thoughtful and gave as much time as I needed to discuss things without ever feeling rushed; this was true of his team as well. After I was discharged, Mr Liau personally followed up and called me to check on how I was doing. I am exceptionally grateful to Mr Liau, and his team, for making me feel safe, supported, and providing exceptional care. Thank you so much.

I have been impressed by Mr Liau and his team from the start to finish of my care. He is a kind, understanding and exceptional surgeon with a fantastic team of doctors, nurses and health care assistants to support him. My case was unusual and the surgery more complicated than planned. He showed great levels of empathy and was apologetic for having to convert my surgery from key-hole to open, even though this was the best option for me and the scars I have following are all neat and have healed exceptionally well. Mr Liau prioritised regular open communication, via telephone calls beforehand to ensure I fully understood what he was going to do, why it was necessary and how my recovery would proceed. He was always honest with the risks for the procedure and communicated exceptionally with both me as a patient and my family, especially directly after the procedure when they were understandably distressed. His thoughtfulness did not stop there; despite Mr Liau being one of the top surgeons in the HPB team, he would often visit me in person on the ward and personally check up on me after the surgery both in clinic and over the telephone. He never rushed me and always answered any questions I had taking the time to explain them in depth. Mr Liau is the best doctor that I have ever had treat me, the service his team provided has been thorough and professional throughout. I genuinely believe that they could not do any more to improve the quality and excellence of care that I received and I am incredibly grateful to have had them treat me. Thank you so much HPB team

I found Mr Liau very professional, friendly and easy to talk to. When we first met to discuss what the next steps were for me, he talked me through everything I needed to know about the operation, what my options were and gave me a chance to ask all my questions in order to make an informed decision. Mr Liau was very positive and supportive about the operation and my progress throughout my care under his team. He and his team kept in contact with me and made me feel my health and well-being was important to him. I’d like to thank Mr Liau and his team for everything they have done for me and for how quickly my operation and care was arranged. I feel I’ve had a very good result and am very grateful, Thank you.

Excellent continuing care. Mr Liau is a thoughtful and sympathetic listener. He is careful to explain the reasons behind his clinical judgement and answers fully any queries or concerns you may have. He is happy to discuss all aspects surrounding any treatment he may suggest. He personally contacted my partner after my operation to reassure her of my condition. He is friendly and approachable and has overseen my recovery with great care and attention. From my own experience his clinical expertise is unquestionable.
